One evening a year we get the whole crew in one room and say thanks properly. Booked at Lennox Irish Pub (Signal Hill Centre, 5-min walk from SHCA) for Thursday, June 25 at 6 PM. Pre-ordered appys + 2 free drink tickets per volunteer; anything more is on you. RSVP by Jun 15, the pub needs 10 days' lead time. Pick what fits your schedule. Most shifts are 2–4 hours; several of these are 18+ only for safety or regulatory reasons.
Community Cleanup
Direct traffic, unload, help City workers, promote memberships.
- Shifts 8:30 AM – 3:00 PM at Westside King's Church
- Traffic roles 18+ only (safety)
- Under 18 welcome with adult guardian
- Microsoft Teams training the week prior
Neighbour Day
The biggest day of the year, three bouncy castles, face-painting, kids zone, setup and teardown crews.
- AM setup / PM teardown, 2-hour shifts
- Kids zone, food line, vendor assist, info tent, general floaters
- All ages welcome (under 14 shadows an adult)
- Free SHCA merch for volunteers
Casino Night, the big one
Biennial AGLC fundraiser at Cowboys Casino. Funds the next two years of everything.
- 36 shifts across two days: cashier, banker, chip runner, count-room
- 18+ only (AGLC requirement)
- Cowboys provides meals + paid parking + on-site training
- Names must be submitted to AGLC ahead, early sign-up matters
Paint the Zambonis
Our outdoor rink Zambonis need a fresh look before next winter. Weekend paint party, coffee, snacks, music.
- 1–2 Saturday sessions in July/August, 3–4 hours each
- Artists and enthusiastic amateurs both welcome
- Paint + brushes + drop-cloths provided
- Family-friendly, bring the kids
Rink Flooding Crew
The outdoor rink is the neighbourhood's winter living room. Keeps it running from November to February.
- Evening flood shifts, 30–45 min, 2–3 times per week
- Training provided; no experience needed
- Pair up with a regular to learn the ropes
- Shift scheduling via a simple group chat
Programs & one-offs
Seniors Sewing Club, Skate Night, Easter Hunt, movie nights, seasonal programs. A few hours here and there.
- Program leads (run an activity you're passionate about)
- Event-day helpers (setup, registration, hospitality)
- Photographers / social-media helpers
- Outreach, hand out flyers, table at the library
Half-day jobs around the rink & gazebo.
Terry McGuire (our property maintenance lead) has a short list of tasks that need a few hands. Date is likely the week of June 24, 2026, pick what you can help with, and Terry will reach out with the exact day. Snacks, gloves, and good company included.
Repair rink board
Patch and shore up sections of the outdoor rink board before it's needed in the fall.
- Half-day commitment, weekday morning likely
- Basic carpentry helps, but not required
- Tools and materials provided
Rink crack filling
Filling concrete cracks in the rink slab so it freezes flat in November.
- Half-day commitment
- Easy, hands-on work, anyone can do it
- Filler and tools provided
Straighten parking lot pots
Quick walk-and-tidy through the parking lot, straighten the planters, freshen up the entrance look.
- One hour, max, easy first volunteer gig
- Family-friendly, bring the kids
- No tools needed
Stain the wood gazebo
The hexagonal gazebo in the park needs a fresh coat of stain, full-day project, social atmosphere.
- Full day (likely a Saturday)
- Best with 3–4 people working together
- Stain, brushes, and lunch provided

Membership Coordinator
Owns the member experience, new sign-ups, renewals, and turning residents into members.
- Track member sign-ups and renewals in our member directory
- Coordinate member-only events, perks, and welcome materials
- Monthly report to the board on member growth
- Partner with Events + Business Liaison on member-value initiatives
Business Liaison
B2B role, grow the sponsor base that funds SHCA programs. Works hand-in-hand with the board.
- Build relationships with Signal Hill and west-side businesses
- Package and sell sponsorship tiers for events and year-round partnerships
- Keep the partners map fresh and promote partner discounts to members
- Grow the partner-funded portion of SHCA's annual budget
Administrative / Secretary
Keeps the board organized, meeting records, agendas, the business calendar, and regulatory filings.
- Take and distribute board meeting minutes
- Send agendas in advance and track follow-ups
- Maintain the business calendar + AGM/regulatory deadlines
- Attention to detail + organizational instincts matter most
